Whole-home renovations with a clear construction plan.
A whole-home renovation is not a collection of room projects—it is one connected scope in which structure, systems, layout, and finishes depend on each other. JMB Builders plans and coordinates that scope as a single build, so decisions made in one part of the home don’t create problems in another.
Brand-film visualization — conceptual imagery, not a completed JMB project.
- Homeowners reworking layout, structure, or systems across most of the home
- Owners of Altadena’s older homes who need wiring, plumbing, and envelope work alongside the redesign
- Families planning additions that tie into whole-home systems
- Buyers who found the right street and intend to make the house right
Defining the scope
- Existing-conditions review with your design team
- Structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing sequencing
- Exterior and interior work planned as one connected project
- Phasing strategy if any part of the home stays occupied
Coordination & sequencing
- Trade scheduling around structural milestones
- Inspection sequencing with the applicable jurisdictions
- Material procurement aligned to the critical path
- Owner reporting with clear stage gates
Character & modernization
- Careful handling of details worth keeping
- Systems upgrades integrated with the redesign
- Envelope work coordinated with interior sequencing
- Final detailing, walkthrough, and documentation
Initial Conversation
We talk about the project type, your property, desired outcomes, and where you are in the process. This is where fit is established—honestly, in both directions.
Discovery & Feasibility
We review existing conditions, clarify project goals, and surface early constraints—before anyone commits to a path.
Pre-Construction Planning
Scope alignment, budget strategy, and coordination with your architect and consultants. The most valuable stage of any major project happens before construction begins.
Projects where most of the home is involved: layout rework, structural changes, full systems replacement, envelope work, or any combination. If your project touches structure or systems across the majority of the house, that is our category. If it is a single room—a kitchen, a bathroom—that is not work we take on.
No. We focus on comprehensive renovations where planning and coordination across the whole home are the value we add. Single-room remodels and small repairs are outside our current scope.
Yes—within the limits of what your design team specifies and the home’s condition allows. We take care with details worth keeping and coordinate closely when a design intends to blend original character with modern systems and layout.
It depends on the scope. Some whole-home projects can be phased to keep part of the home livable; many cannot. We will give you an honest answer once we understand the scope, and we plan phasing deliberately when it is viable.
Through pre-construction planning: scope alignment, procurement strategy, and stage-gated decisions so the budget reflects the whole project rather than its visible finishes alone.
